Woman says man trailed her for 30 minutes on way home from evening run

A woman in Nigeria has described an encounter in which she says a man trailed her for a number of minutes as she headed back from a run in the evening. A video posted online shows her confronting the individual and demanding to know why he kept trailing her. "Youve been following me for 30 minutes. Why are you following me? Are you m@d? Why are you following me?" she can be heard saying. According to her account, the episode took place on September 19, 2026, following an evening run. She explained that she was close to reaching her home when the man came up to her and inquired about her destination. When she asked him why he needed that information, she said, he wanted to know whether asking such a question was a crime. She said she opted against heading straight home, instead taking various streets as she ran errands, yet she spotted the same person trailing her more than once. Even after she challenged him, she said, he remained self-assured, and she asked why she should be obliged to address him politely merely because he is a man. The episode moved her to address the topic of safety for women. She noted that she had lately spoken about the risks that people who run outdoors can encounter while making their way back. She further pushed back against the view that women require men for protection from other men, maintaining that women should be free to travel around without being followed or harassed. The woman said the encounter made her think about carrying pepper spray and a pocket knife for her protection.
